Dark Daysby *jncarter

We often hear the term 'Dark Days' when referring to the early days of the the Battle of Britain.

I had several aims for this. I wanted to make this picture Dark, yet Golden, Hard yet Soft. I wanted the formations of Stuka's to be regular as is if they were just machines marching in lines and with the belief that they were invincible. But I aslo wanted it to be soft in places to show the other side of darkness - Hope - The spitfires are strong and more detailed they are positioned with care to show them about to engage in a fight for their country even though outnumbered.they also have that golden tone in them, Dark days indeed.

Not my usual type of picture. It different in look and in the feelings, they are the feelings of fear and courage also the straight backed self belief that comes with arrogance.

Spitfires are from FSX and the Stukas are from IL2.

BoB proved that dedicated dive bomber aircraft require air superiority before they can be effective - up until BoB, Stukas were highly effective - in theaters where the Germans had air superiority. Although ineffective during BoB, Stukas later achieved sucesses in the Russian campaign.

The sunlight is really incredible in in this picture!
